Gyrokinesis® is a movement method that works the entire body - and mind. With its spiraling actions and mental focus, the practice systematically works joints and muscles, increasing range of motion and functional strength while stimulating the entire nervous system.
The practice is derived from Gyrotonic®, an exercise method that coordinates movement, breath, and overall awareness. Both Gyrotonics and Gyrokinesis practices are composed of spiraling, circular movements which flow together in rhythmic repetitions and corresponding breath patterns that allow spine and joints to move through a natural range of motion without jarring or compression. Absent the feedback and guidance of GYROTONIC® machinery, GYROKINESIS practitioners, using only a mat and chair, naturally become more reliant on their own proprioception to explore movement - on and off the mat.
Designed to increase the functional capacity of the entire body, GYROKINESIS is appropriate for all fitness levels.
Gyrokinesis exercise uses breathwork to inspire fluid movements to move the spine in all of its planes of motion and the joints and muscles of the whole body. It is done sitting on a stool, standing and on a mat. In addition to building a connected and strong musculoskeletal system, these movements decompress joints, awaken the senses, and bring awareness and energy to the body. Postures are not held; instead, they are smoothly connected through the use of breath, leaving your joints feeling mobile and decompressed.
